The Ballina Community Men’s Shed commenced January 2010. This vibrant group has been a member of the National Men’s Shed Association since its inception. It welcomes new members.
Our primary purpose is to provide a place where guys can enjoy gathering together to work on worthwhile projects and to socialise. In so doing it aims to improve the health and wellbeing of members and reduce the risk of preventable health issues that may otherwise arise from social isolation.
We begin 2018 at our newly redeveloped temporary location at 44 Fisher Creek Road, West Ballina. We are open there Monday Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday morning from 8-12 noon. The woodwork workshop, office and other community space is all now operating from that site.
Morning tea is around 9.30am for half an hour when we down tools, chat and solve the world’s problems. This is a good time for visitors and prospective members to meet the group and chat. It is also good to contact us beforehand. The best contact at present is to ring our Team Leader Graham Eggins on 0416 004 013.
Orders are also taken for specific individual products and community projects the men’s shed may undertake.
Though our target group is men over 18, we are open to developing special sessions for women and young people and other distinct groups.
Recently, we have developed a Micro Renewable Energy Project Working group which meets fortnightly Friday mornings between 9.30am and 12 noon. This group is currently in recess till February 2018. Others have expressed interest in sketching, leatherwork, music and other activities.
We are planning to broaden our project activities further in the future to include metalwork, model building, electronic, and other interest members may develop. To this end we are well advanced with plans to develop a first class purpose-built Men’s Shed on land at the Ballina Racecourse.
We hope to meet you soon.
