The Ballina Community Men’s Shed has been in operation in Ballina for nearly 7 years. In that time they have had over 100 members, hundreds more enquiries, completed more than 200 orders and helped in practical ways, numerous community groups. Currently, for instance they are working on an order of boomerang blanks for Bunjum Aboriginal Co-op for NAIDOC week.
The Ballina Community Men’s Shed have had up until now a woodwork workshop at Southern Cross K-12 School. Though extremely grateful for this wonderful provision the group has been seeking for 5 years for an adequate facility where it can grow and diversify further into metalwork, basic mechanical, painting, electronics and computers, model building and space for a lounge, office, meeting room etc.
It’s tedious search for land has led it to 5 different locations. The present and we believe the final site at the Ballina Racecourse on Crown land managed by the Ballina Jockey Club, ticks all the right boxes. The Ballina Community Men’s Shed have an in principle agreement to build a men’s shed at that site. Concept plans for that development are being drawn up and costed and further funds are being sort. It is hoped construction can commence September, 2018.
Temporarily we are located at 44 Fishery Creek Road. West Ballina.
